Wednesday September 25, Dijon

Our ship was docked at the small town of Chalon sur Saone, which actually means we had left the Rhone river for a while and steamed up the Saone. We took a bus ride up to Dijon where we visited a fabulous art museum: Musees des Beaux Arts de Dijon. It actually had the best collection of art we've seen so far. Here are some pictures from our half-day in the city, but to see the actual collection I recommend the web site: http://mba.dijon.fr/...

Jill in front of Dijon city hall, formerly the home of the Duke of Burgundy (11th - 15th centuries). The art museum is in one wing of this building:

Tomb (in the art museum) of Philip the Bold (1342-1404)

A 16th century altar piece in the museum. Note the saint on the left with the skateboard and monkey...

View from the museum of "Liberation Square." Jill was standing in front of the open gate in the first picture in this posting:

Jill deciding on the proper use for one of the duke's golden crowns (15th century):

Couldn't resist taking this artsy shot of a sculpture beneath one of the painted ceilings in the museum:

Having crepes for lunch in Liberation Square. Can't remember what that woman behind Jill was doing:
