Friday September 20, Driving to Arles to Board our River Cruise Ship, Stopping at St. Paul de Vence Along the Way

We left Monaco behind today, driving in busses approximately 4 hours to Arles where our ship was waiting for us. Along the way we stopped at two locations in St. Paul de Vence. The first was the Maeght Foundation, a private museum of modern art, where we saw works by Miro (the egg and the tower behind it)...

Unfortunately I don't remember who did this sculpture. The guide happened to be right there and offered to take our picture...

Then we were off to the old village of St. Paul de Vence, a hilltop fortress built around 1400:




It turned out that Marc Chagall is buried at St. Paul de Vence. It was easy to find his grave; it was the only one without a cross!


And finally we reached the Rhone River and our ship the Swiss Emerald:
